Call-out: Artists and Musicians to lead Early Years Workshops
Written 25 Sep 2025
At The Library is looking for a number of musicians and artists to join our early years programme Squish!
Since 2023 we've developed a programme of radical approaches to early years’ play including a new touring opera for babies with Hurly Burly Theatre Company, sound art with Dave Evans, experimental materials with artist Linny Venables and soft sculptures made by Ellie Barrett's multigenerational family of artists. The programme is curated by artist Nicki McCubbing.
Our work is about creating moments that are playful, imaginative and welcoming, sparking joy and connection for children and adults alike.
We advocate for slow-paced creative play experiences, using natural, sustainable, easy to access materials.
The programme supports community and family bonds, maternal mental health and early child development, with music and creativity at the heart.
Working with families with babies and children under 4 in libraries in Bootle, Netherton, Crosby and Southport, we want to create a small pool of musicians and artists who will lead workshops and small projects alongside paid practice development.
We will offer 6 peer learning sessions or masterclasses over 18 months and optional additional training. Workshop-leading opportunities will vary.
We are looking for artists and musicians who are:
- Interested in delivering creative activities with and for very young children (0–4 years) and their parents/carers.
- Excited by co-creation and socially-engaged practice.
- Committed to inclusive, accessible, family-friendly approaches.
What’s involved
- Delivering creative sessions in libraries and other community settings
- Collaborating with producers and community partners
- Being part of a cohort of creatives over an 18-month programme
What we offer

- Ongoing support from an experienced creative producer and programme team.
- Connections with our community and national early years arts networks.
- £35 per hour, plus £10 travel per session
