What Stories Make Worlds

‘What Stories Make Worlds’ was a free series of sessions, open to all ages and abilities, which looked at the past, present and future of Netherton. Through conversations, photography, walks and information gathering, participants built a new archive of the area by studying its natural and human surroundings.

Between March and September of 2023, participants worked alongside librarians and the At The Library team to undertake local research: photographing, factfinding, audio recording and filming, before editing and assembling a new publication and film as a culmination of the work.

At the close of the project we hosted a film screening in the library space to hear a reading of Michelle Barrett’s poem, share popcorn, read the printed publication and see the film for the first time.

Special thanks to: John, James, Ian, Liz, Joe and Gregory; Michelle for producing a new poem as part of the publication; Fiona from the Lancashire Wildlife Trust for her contribution and to the lovely staff at Netherton Library.
