Freshly Cut Grass

Escape from it all for a little while and come on a journey through nature —without leaving the house. Artist Frances Disley has designed a series of online resources to help you escape the stresses and strains of everyday life by going on your own guided imaginary journey. The resources are designed to be used whenever and wherever best suits you.

There are three resource versions, designed to help you relax at different times during your day — one for the morning, midday or night time. For each version, there is a quiz that will lead you to the guided journey that is best suited for you.

Access the morning journey here.

Access your own midday journey here.

Access your night time journey here.

Playing about with meditation practices, the resources are designed to take you away for a bit and make practicing relaxation techniques more relatable and understandable. Alongside the resources, we will be hosting small events online so you can meet Frances, share your experience with others and discover more techniques for relaxing.

Keep an eye on our Facebook or Twitter for more details for any more details about events relating to Freshly Cut Grass and get involved.

Jan 2021

On Blue Monday — the third Monday in January — officially labelled ‘the most depressing day of the year’, we invite you to share a space of restorative care and calm.

Please join artist Frances Disley and therapeutic and mindful movement specialist, Juliana Proskourina-Barnett, for a self-led hand and face massage class, that will support deep relaxation. You will be guided in learning how to self-massage your hands and face, using your skin as a landscape for a calming imaginary journey.

Through the workshop Fran and Juliana will touch on knowledge relating to yoga practices and relaxation, which you can take away and incorporate into your everyday life. You are invited to participate as much or as little as you like – simply to listen, or chat about your own experiences and mechanisms for relaxing. There will be 24 limited edition bespoke scented balms or scents, designed and produced by Frances, available to collect from the library for Bootle and Crosby locals who would like to join the workshop. The scents and balms will help to make your experience extra calming, and engage all your senses.

This event will take over Zoom.

If you would like to take part in the event and book your own balm or scent for collection, just send us an email at hello@atthelibrary.co.uk or message us on Whatsapp: 07751240427.

If you have any issues getting set up on Zoom, send us an email or message us on Whatsapp

Feb 2021

To celebrate the release of the final version of Freshly Cut Grass, you are invited to join us for an artist talk with Frances Disley on 15th February at 11:00am over Zoom.

Back in August, Frances shared with us a morning version of Freshly Cut Grass — the first in a series of beautiful audio-guided journeys, designed to help people escape and unwind at different times in the day. Available from the At the Library website, to access whenever and wherever is good for you, a short quiz leads you to the imaginary journey best suited to you. On the 15th, we will be sharing the final version of the series: a night-time journey, designed to help you switch off and rest before bed.

Frances will be talking to participants about her long-standing friendship with the At the Library team, the inspiration behind her imaginary journeys, and tips on how to use her resources. You will have the opportunity to ask her questions and join in the conversation in a safe and supportive group. Afterward, you are invited to go away and use the night-time journey for yourself, to help send you into a calming night sleep.

As part of our launch, Bootle and Crosby residents can sign up to receive a special limited-edition pack that includes a printed night-time journey, bespoke scents, and a CD. Numbers are limited and only available for Bootle or Crosby locals.
